EAAF

EAAF is the Argentine Forensic Anthropology Team, a scientific nonprofit that applies forensic sciences to the investigation of disappearances and other human rights violations. EAAF works in 15-20 countries on 5 continents each year using a family-centered approach that puts the needs of those closest to the victims above all else.

WHAT
EAAF
DOES

  • 1

Search for and identify remains of the disappeared in contexts of violence and humanitarian crisis.

  • 2

Repatriate remains back to the victim’s families, respecting their values and beliefs.

  • 3

Supply scientific evidence to courts, international tribunals, truth commissions and other transitional justice processes.

  • 4

Provide forensic training to victims’ families, human rights defenders, and journalists as well as judges, prosecutors, professional investigators and security forces.

  • 5

Conduct public policy advocacy to improve forensic policy at the national, regional and global levels.

  • 6

Incorporate new forensic technologies to improve the search and identification of victims of human rights violations.

Putting victims & families
at the center of every investigation.

A family-centered approach, means EAAF:

  • Investigates primarily at the request of families seeking their relatives.
  • Values family-supplied evidence such as victims’ medical files and families’ own DNA samples to match with remains.
  • Involves families in investigations, whenever possible through roundtables with government investigators and through forensic data banks that are co-managed by EAAF, families’ committees, their legal representatives, consular officials, and prosecutors.
  • Train families in key forensic strategies so they understand the process and can advocate for the most effective investigation in their own communities.

In more than 55 countries since 1984.
